I picked it up this afternoon. It was sold as a used rifle, but I cannot tell that it has ever been fired! It looks brand spanking new! The Harris bipod was already mounted (backwards - but I have already fixed that).

I belive it is a standard-loaded with the stainless steel barrel.

Ammo arrived tomorrow, and this rifle will see some range time this week-end.

    WOO-HOO!

Outstanding! That's a great rifle for sure. A range report is expected forthwith of course. ;)

Now TX you need to go ahead and get a bunch of ammo cause these rifles like to shoot. Find a 10 round mag or two or order some CMI they make shooting off the bench or from prone a lot more comfortable.
What you have is not a standard loaded---it is a Loaded M1A. I have one just like it and the other two are parkerized. Look on top of the barrel right behind the front sight and I believe you will see NM .308. You should have a national match medium weight ss tube and a NM trigger mechanism in heavy walnut stock.
Call Springfield and they can tell you what rate of twist you have--most likely 1 in 11 and the date the rifle was manufactured.
You might want to order a Sadlak NM spring guide. It really smooths out the operation of the rifle. Sadlak also makes one of the best scope mounts that can be found.
Take care of it, shoot it and love it like I do my three.
