Hello,

I am a mechanical engineering technology student at the University of Cincinnati. I am developing a machine that aids in loading loose rounds into M16/AR-15 magazines. I would appreciate it if you AR-15 enthusiasts would click on the link below and take 60 seconds or so to complete my survey:

www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=DPldPCXtrbXzUSlaZ68UMA_3d_3d

As far as I know, this is not against the forum rules. If it is, I apologize in advance. In addition to that, some of you may think this is a stupid idea. That's ok! But that doesn't mean you can't fill out the survey. Comments in the thread are also welcome.

Thanks for your help,
designer12

Well, I recognize that what you are trying to do is interesting, but to be honest, a 45.00 MagLULA does just about everything that you're proposing except align the rounds to the magazine facing. When your starting price point if 200.00+, you'll find interest wanes quickly. Most shooters would rather spend money on ammo and weapons (ugh) than accessories for things that they perceive that they can do themselves.

This is substantially a perceived value issue. What your offering does not appear to give sufficient value compared to its cost. Thats biz 101.

Stripper clips and mag adapters come free with some ammo, work really well and take little effort on the part of the operator. We used to be able to load a magazine in about 5 or 10 seconds with them when I was in the army.

Thanks, I realize that there are much cheaper products out there that work great, but this is primarily academic. It will probably turn out to be a novelty to sit in my garage, but right now I need 30 surveys to make it statistically significant. My coursework walks us through the design process and survey feedback is crucial. That doesn't mean that anyone needs to buy it or use it, and putting a price of less than $200 would be a bit dishonest on my part, since I don't really see that happening.

Either way, I'm having a hell of a time getting 30 surveys (at 22 now), so thanks for taking it.

Yes, but what about loose rounds? Thanks for taking my survey.

Anyone want to help me out here?
The second question in your survey asks what we'd pay for a device that will orient rounds and load them automatically. The lowest dollar value is $200. I can get a lot of stripper clips for that....

It's not that I don't want to help with your survey. It's that maybe the answers are a little too limiting.

A hand-crank device that orients rounds and groups them into 20 and slides them onto stripper clips might be nice, but I sure wouldn't pay $200 for one. A powered mechanical device that will load 30-rd mags in two seconds at the rate of 30 mags per minute is not something I need or am interested in owning.
