Why not go to big 5 sports an get the m1 carbine. Usually around $550 or so. Different brands of replicas are sold at ours

actual m1 carbines can and do fire modern and surplus carbine ammo.

the only non military carbine look alikes are made by universal. they arent very good guns. best just to get a surplus one from any number of sources.

I've handled them in the gunshop side by side with a few WWII M1 Carbines before and they seem to be very well built, and on par with the WWII M1 Carbines. I would love to get my hands on one of their Thompson replicas sometime too.

I would imagine that their Thompsons are good quality since Auto Ordnance was the original manufacturer of the Thompsons. I find the history of the Thompson with the Gangsters very interesting.

I believe both, replicas and surplus rifles are around the same price tag, but I could be wrong. Personally I would rather have a surplus one, because it's been there and done that so to speak.

Depending on the condition for a surplus M1 Carbine they can run between $700-$850 and that's generally the price range for a replica as well.

The M-1 Carbine is chambered in .30 carbine. Totally different round. I don't know of any that are chambered in anything else, but I supposed it's possible for someone to make a wildcat.

The M1 Carbine is chambered for the .30 Carbine cartridge. The closests thing to an M1 Carbine chambered in 30-06 would be an M14/M1A. If you wanted something that is similar to the M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, and M14/M1A then the rifle would be the Mini 14. It's action is based off of the M1 Garand, the bolt can be held back by pushing in a button like the M1 Carbine, and it takes a detachable magazine like the M1A and M1 Carbine.

My very first rifle was a actual military issued M1 Carbine. My Dad gave it to me when I was 9 and I used it for all my huntin until I was 18. Great, fun, CHEAP to shoot! Killed a lotta deer with that thing. I still use her to hunt coyotes and to go turtle shooting' every chance I get!

I've honestly never been to a gun show where there wasn't an original or at least a good repro gun for a good price....

one other thing. replicas of the m1 carbine you have to get parts from the manufacturer. surplus parts dont work with the replicas.
