Hi, I have an old M1 carbine parts gun that I received a year or so ago as a gift. The other day when cleaning it, a small fleck of metal was dislodged from the receiver, and upon further inspection I found that it was from a shoddy looking weld on the underside of what I presume is the slide rail. From the top it appears that at some point in the past a cut was made and then a weld was done on the underside. My concern is to whether or not it is safe to shoot. I do not know if the location it is in would be considered dangerous and could possibly lead to a catastrophic failure. I have attached pictures below and I apologize for them being a bit blurry. I would appreciate any input in regards to the weld or if this is the right place to find insight on the subject. Thank you for your time.

I can't tell much from the blurry pics. You need to take it to a good gunsmith and have him check it out for you.
