Anybody thank they will make a shield in .45 apc.
But that's my favorite caliber in a auto. .
I dont thank so ---
I have no idea if a 45acp version of the Shield will ever come about. But if that's something you're longing to have, I'd imagine the SA XDs45 will be pretty darn close to what you're after.
I hope for the best but I expect no
Hard to imagine as the XDs 45 is the bang right now. Just got one recently and have put several hundred rounds thru it. No problems.
Competition spurs the market, the XDs stole a lot of the Shields thunder so I wouldn't be surprised to see a 45 acp version soon. I have a Shield 9 and like it very much but I like my new XDs even better since it's in my favorite caliber.
I certainly hope not!!!
Why would you want a gun this size in a 45????
If you use the 'best' defense ammo available today in the 9, 357, 40, and 45 there is less than 5% difference from the best to the worst when it comes to incapacitating a human!!!
A 45 would carry A LOT less ammo, recoil A LOT more, and have A LOT less terminal effect with this short of a bbl!!!
As Jeff Cooper use to say, " A good big man will always beat a good little man." Jeff as you know was a huge proponant of the 45 acp.
I am well aware of that. I 'was' one of the most out spoken proponents of the 45 when I got back from RVN and became a cop. In my 'opinion' there should be a 45 acp in every cops holster. But I knew that would not happen with out 'proof' that it was superior to other calibers. I carried one while on the SWAT (TEU) team and loaded my own ammo. To prove my point I began to research it and over the last 40+ years of researching it I proved myself wrong.
But the myth and misinformation continues to abound!!!
Jim, our experience is similar, I was in RVN arriving days before Tet in January 1968. After becoming a civilian I joined the Chicago PD for a fun filled 31 year career. A friend just sent me an very good read on typical police handgun, rifle and shotgun loads and their performance. Send me your email in a PM and I'll forward it to you.
MHO, gun shops can't keep Shields in the store. S&W can't make them fast enough. Till the demand for 9's and 40's drops significantly, I doubt Smith would consider another caliber.
