I want to get my first semi auto rifle...any suggestions?
what will be the purpose of the rifle? Are you new to fire arms in general? Give us an idea of what you want and or need it for, so we can better help you
General home defence, end of the world, 2012, etc. I would also like to just shoot for fun. I have a little experience shooting and the last time I went shooting was about 3 or 4 years ago when I shot an AK47, AR15 and an old Lee Enfield.
What's your budget? That information would help greatly too.
If you're going to target shoot and thus use lots of ammo, 223rem, around $.40 each, and 308rem, around $.60, are cheaper than most other center-fire cartridges (.243, .270, .30-06), around $.90 each. Don't forget the .22lr at about $.08. -- Ruger 10/22 is prorbably the most popular semi.
Nothing wrong with the first two. An AK will be the cheapest, to buy, and shoot. However, the AR will be more accurate. Thought about an SKS? Again, its what you can afford.
Why discriminate, buy em' all
And add to that the question of looks. Some people like the wood stock, hunting rifle look and others like the tactical black-rifle type of look.
Mini-14, for instance. It is in .223 Rem, a really good round. You could get it with both looks: a pretty blonde-wood stock and an ATI tactical version for roughly the same amount of $.
I can afford any single gun, but I would like to get a few. I like the AR15 or M4's but who is the best manufacturer?
Dude.....have you opened a can 'o worms with that question......do a search on here as there have been several threads about AR manufacturers......what you will find is that there are many opinions on this subject and it is also highly depended on your budget, there is a best under $1000, under $5000 and then there is the "sky's the limit".....that said I have a S&W M&P 15T, nice gun, under $2000, is probably more accurate than I can shoot it but I'm still learning, and I'm partial to S&W for multiple reasons one being they are less than 45 min from where I live.
Yeah I think $5k is a little too much...$2k sounds better, but how much better is the $2 that the under $1k?
