Hey all, as you can tell I am new to this forum. I was curious I am looking to build an AR-15. I really enjoy projects like this I have built computers, My Mitsubishi Eclipse(pretty much everything but engine) and other things. Guns are one thing I have enjoyed since a child. So my question to the veterans of this skill. What is the best way yo start out and is it cheaper to build them yourself? What all should I learn? I was thinking about buying the entire action family and everything and just buy the kits and everything. Let me know what you think once I get started on this I will post pics but it may not be for a while. Thanks.

Hi Nihilist88, there are several AR build threads over in the AR forum with lots of good info. Most people, including me, recommend buying a "stripped" lower and building the lower yourself but buying a complete upper for your first build. You can save a few bucks doing it yourself, plus you gain the experience of the build.

Cool man, thanks for the information. I will check those out. Do I need to pick up any kind of special tools or books?

A few things are helpful, a good set of punches, a small hammer, a set of needlenose pliers, and some blue painters tape. The only guide I used was the how-to I found over at ar15.com, but you can just google it too.

Awesome dude. I am so psyched about this. I will post pics later. Money is really the only thing keeping this project from a full on launch. I was just gathering information for it so when the time comes. I still have a tad bit of things to do with my pc first.

As with any build, patience is key. Some parts from different manufacturers may not want to play well together.
    Learn how the parts interact.
Remember, you can easily remove metal, but it is hard to put it back.
