The carry handle can be removed. Want something for recreational use (nothing to serious). Mid-range quality scope. Can anyone Help me out with selecting something with these constraints.

    Welcome to the Forum -

Your carry handle can be removed, but what about the front ramp sight?

Do you want to co-witness with your front sight? Do you want to move towards fold down, back up iron sights ( BUIS ) in the future?

How far are you wanting to shoot? Target shooting? Varmint shooting? Zombies in the wire?

Do you want a heads up sight, like a Reflex or an Aimpoint or an EoTech? Or do you want a low power glass optic?

A buddy has an inexpensive BSA red dot on his FrankenAR. It hit beer cans out to about 75 or 100 yards. After that, the 4 MOA dot is just too big. It still gives minute of bad guy accuracy, but it's not a target scope.

Walmart carries some decent quality, low end Leupolds for a few hundred dollars.

See as far as the front sight goes IDK what would be best. Do you recommend BUIS?

As far as distance goes Im pretty sure nothing over 500 yards. Would be target shooting and some varmint.

I would want both in the future as far as optics. But as of right now low power glass is what I am looking for. I also have my eyes on Aimpoint for heads up.

If you can post a pic of your weapon with these items that would help out extensively. More concerned right now on your optics.
You bought from this dealer on Ebay for those prices? Thats pretty good pricing.

I know this is on a AK but they all fit on my AR too.

canebrake thanks for the pictures and your help. IN the first picture you have posted can you tell me what you optic is mounted on? Looks like some sort of riser. I only ask because I need something like that to see over the front sight.

It's the side mount for my AK.

Try these in your other thread:

The Leupold FXII 4X33 is a good scope for an AR-15. Here is my Stag Arms 3L:

I recommend the Bushnell 4200 6-24 x 50 Model 426245T, reliable adjustments, bright, nice big turrets, check it out.

That's a good looking piece, but you need to dump that clamshell and get a free float tube in your future additions. :D

I would definitely recommend dumping that ramp front site and getting a set of folding BUIS. YHM and Troy Industries make some great units with Yankee Hill having the better prices.

A good, fixed power 4 or 6 power would treat you right for what you are looking at doing. As long as you aren't trying to shoot dimes at 300 yards, you don't need a real high power piece of glass. It would narrow your field of view too much and make the weapon less effective in a multiple target situation.

Well I wont be shooting dimes so this should work out for me. Thank you for the knowledge, also in removing the front sight does it slide off once the pins are removed or does it just come right off, dont have to do anything extra.

Do you mind me asking why you mix black with brown.

Brown buttstock, grip, rail and vertical grip? Wasn't sure if its a desired look or just a shortage of parts. Or make it appear not as evil asa black gun lol

"You talking' to me? YOU TALKIN' TO ME??" (My poor Bobby DeNiro impression.)

If you are, it's a result of my photo skills and not a fashion statement.

Now if you are referring to my offtopic.gif AK/SUR, yes it was intentional. (Is intentional.)

This is a social experiment with results as predictable as a Stamford case study. (Albeit conducted with NO government grant funding!)

Of the two above rifles, the COMBLOCK AK was <20% of the outlay of my grant funds. But dressed up as a mall-ninja range attention-whore, the AK gets 80% + of the comments/questions I get while shooting.

From an ego-stroke/economical/pure fun shooting experience, I too like the AK.

    So why did I spend the $ for the AR and continue to shoot it on a regular basis? Simple;

When the SHTF, you know what rifle and go-bag I will be grabbing!

Nikon 6-24x50mm SF one of the best pieces of glass out there in the SUB $600 range.
