Looking for help and suggestions on a decent sidearm. It will be used mainly for home defense or close quarter situations. Looking more along the .45 genre but open to other suggestions. I am a C&R FFL holder so if theres one that qualifies under that it will be more convenient and price range is anywhere up to 650.00. Thanks in advance.

My recommendation in the price range is Springfield XD or Glock 21.

I am confident others will come along and point out more choices.

Go to some local gunshops and talk to the folks there about your budget and
    and interests.

Be sure to consider used, nothing wrong with a good used pistol. I have had good luck buying second hand firearms.

    Do you mean RIA?
Op- I too would recommend a Rock Island 1911, I picked mine up for 400 plus tax and fees.

I have a357 revolver and it works good for me. I would just suggest shooting it before you buy it. I've shot a few hand guns that had alot of slop in the trigger and some that just didn't seem to like me.

Remington & Ruger have 1911's in the $700-$800 range. An STI Spartan can be picked up between $700 and $800.

Springfield Armory 1911's start in the $600's.

The Spartan is set up well and is an excellent option.

I like my xdm in 40 cal large capacity mags decent priced ammo and it's a lot of fun to shoot and always goes bang without a problem. No problems so far. I also like my springfield GI 1911 in 45 acp great feel and alot of fun to shoot I love everything about it.

Another vote for the XD45 here; mine has been absolutely reliable. SA has newer models out now, so the XD45 might be a better deal. 13+1 could be helpful in the really bad situations.

I think 1911's are too pricey IMO, although they make some sweet looking pieces. I mean there are some affordable 1911's out there but then you have that "hit or miss" factor. It seems that the god ones start at least a grand or better. Sine you like the .45 round, look at the G21,G30 or the XDM'S. FNP make some cool .45's too just dont know much about them; all four you can find in that price range your looking for.

Glocks have alot of issues also. Most good 1911s arent a grand up. The really good ones are a grand up admitedly. But not everyone likes the same thing or can afford the great things like colts;)
