Yup! I love my Mossberg 500 and have since 1995, after somebody else loved it since 1978 or so.

See if you can find a combo with both a field barrel and a shorter home defense barrel.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mossberg-500-All-Purpose-Field-Shotgun-12ga/17656106 According to the reviews, Wally's sells the non-combo, plain-Jane model for $250ish. Mine was $100 at a pawn shop, very used.

How much are they, can't seem to find a price online, and where can I get one? Has the ban taken them out of circulation?

Highly unlikely to be banned, except maybe in Colorado.

Check the local stores; I gotta believe you can beat $310. The combos usually go about $350, I bleve.

If you wish, there are many accessories available (stocks, side saddle ammo racks, alternate barrels, etc.). They did have a .50 cal muzzle-loading barrel that you could get at one time, not sure now.

Walmart is $257 so I guess that is the price area. Great guys. I always thought 500's were 800 bucks.

Remington 870. I prefer the Remington because of the weight. But the mossberg has more intuitive controls IMO. They're both pound for pound similar guns though that retail at about the same price. You can find one for $220 used in my area. $300 out the door new in most cases though.

When I bought my NIB HD barrel (18.5" cylinder bore) at the gun show, it was $75-$80.

Pffffft! It was maybe two years ago.

Now the fact that I bought mine in grad school in 1995, THAT is showing my age. :p

Don't get the silly "breaching" barrel; it ain't a whale.

Mossberg 500, Remington 870 or even the Maverick 88, which is made by Mossberg and pretty much the M500 with some minor differences. i have used all three of these and wouldn't hesitate in buying any of them.

I also have a New England Firearms pardoner which is based off of the 870. Got it for under $200 and it has been a good gun. Also 870 aftermarket parts fit it but not barrels

Remington 870 each and every time. I wouldn't shoot my worst enemy with a Mossberg because I want it to work, shoot straight, and get the job done.

Yeah because we know the Mossbergs fail all the time. I'm sure that's why they were the only shotgun to pass the Marine Corps requirements when they were adopted.

I have has Mossbergs and Remingtons. Both are fine. Both will kill bad guys just as dead. Mossbergs have better placement of controls for the safety and bolt release. Remington's have a more solid action rail system. I wouldn't want to stand in front of either one.

Was gonna say the same thing...
If I am not mistaken, they are the only shotgun to this day to pass all of the trials it's been put through.
I guess outstanding customer service and a 10 year warrantee just aren't enough for some people....

Don't buy Remington unless you like to deal with customer service that is worse than Taurus. Your money also goes to "Freedom" Group.

Might've been dumb-luck, but I got a Stoeger M2000 auto-load @ Dick's for $375 last Fall. As long as you don't use anything lighter than 30g shells (to keep the ejector happy) - this puppy pops as fast as you can pull the trigger. I took out the plug (4 + 1) and ran thru a couple hundred rounds without a single jam.

Hmmmmmmmm..............Mossberg has a proven track record just like the 870. for the most part, i have yet to see a Mossberg that didn't perform like it should.
