I am looking for a good set of zoom binoculars that will mount on a stand that I can use for spotting (100-300 yards)... I would prefer to keep them under $200 if possible. The more powerful the better... would be nice to use them for astronomical viewing as well. Suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry to tell you this, but you can get good Binocs OR you can get cheap binocs.

I have medium price/quality Steiner 10X50. Not top end by any means, but not bad. About as good as you can get for $500.

Steiner binoculars are very nice optics, and you get what you pay for with any type of optics.

I would also look at the Nikon Monarch HD. Good binos for the dollar. My go too binos are Kahles 8x42. Sister company to Swarovski and comparable. Around 940

    Canon

Canon image stabilized binocs. The stabilized feature really helps to spot movement. Cost runs from $360 for 8x25 ranging to $1320 for 18x50 on Amazon. I've used the 8x25 for years for bird watching -really stabilized image. Some models are touted as "All Weather". Well worth the price.

I would highly recommend looking at the vortex diamondbacks. I've had a pair for a few years and have been really impressed. Much better than the NIKONs in my opinion. And much better warranty.
