I am an ameauture new zealand wars weapon researcher . in auction recently i purchased a colt navy srn125766. ithas british proof marks on the cylinder . the barrel is marked ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S AMERICA The frame and trigger guard are metal and not brass. i have found a date in an old register that it wasused on 23.2.1869. we believe it is one of a batch that was issued to the new zealand colonial troops during the wars here in1860to 1872.any assistance as to the weapons history ie . manufacture issue etc. will be greatly appreciated.
