I'm gearing up to add a new family member, as my gf told me recently, that she was going to give me about $600 towards a new pistol.I've been thinking about the 45 for more than a year and went back and forth between compact and full size. The most important thing for me is something in a hammer fired sa/da type pistol and maybe some suggestions as I like to carry with one in the chamber.

Take a look at the Beretta PX4 Storm. It is a DA/SA hammer fired gun and is a step away from the traditional 1911 style. Of course if it is the 1911 syle you are looking for my eye leans to the Ruger...

Older Smith and Wesson DA with SA ability. S&W Model 457 or Model 4516-1 (won't find many of these at the BBQ)

A modern SA 1911 type in .45ACP has a Great Hammer and looks nice cocked and locked in a hip holster.

I like the reverse doutone with night sights and the srt .I know I want the srt cause of my 226 as well as the night sights. So I'm definitely gonna have to come up with one or two hundred more but that shouldn't be a big issue.

In addition to my 1911s I really enjoy my Witness Elite Match.

Also, Beretta/Stoeger Cougar. It's on my list of things to buy one of these days.

So why do you think a striker fired semi is unsafe? I'd think that a Glock or XDm would be as safe as any other semi, exposed hammer or not. IF you have to have an exposed hammer then my vote is for the Beretta PX4 Storm in 45acp but I'd not overlook a Glock G21 or for something a bit smaller a G30.

I've tried three different Glocks and the three that I tried didn't feel comfortable in my hand nor did they point naturally for me.Not saying that they are not good reliable weapons just saying they are not for me.
