I am looking to get a .44 mag lever action rifle. I was thinking Rossi but not positive yet. The rifle will be used mainly for boar hunting, along with other medium sized game. I only need about 150 yards effective range. Does anybody have any thoughts, concerns, or comments?

if you can find one the marlin 1894 is a much better gun. rossis need a little work to smooth em up a bit but they are good enough. definately need to hand select em though. thats my experience in shopping for a 45 colt version.

ended up with a uberti 1873

a marlin 1895 gbl in 45-70 wil make a MUCH better hog gun when using hardcast solids.

Henry was my first choice, but don't want to spend 800 on one right now. I just bought my 3 month old son named Colt, a Colt single action army. I think I may just have to wait a month or two and get the Henry. Any suggestions on a good scope?

It is still hard to fathom that a Marlin 1895 costs what it does. I paid about $425 for my Guide Gun about 10 years ago.

The 45-70 will stop anything in the lower 48. My handload of a hard cast 340 gr flat nose @ 2100 fps is BEASTLY!

45-70 leverguns have been successfully used to take cape buffalo and elephant the two most dangerous game animals on the planet.

stay away from hornady leverrevolution in 45-70. the hornady cases are waaaay too short for 45-70 chambers and can lead to very very dangerous over pressure situation if you use a saami standard cased round afterwards
