If you were to get a truly massive big bore upper, would you go with the .458 socom or the .50 beowulf?

if i was going to get a truly massive big bore AR15 type i would look into the feasibility of the 458LOTT :)

but seriously i went with the 458socom.

Whats the difference between the lott and socom? And what all do you use the round for?

    I'd go for the SOCOM.

Diiference between a LOTT and a socom is 800fps and 2000FT LB of energy. Kinda like comparing a 22mag to a 5.56 or a 308 to a 300 win mag. The Lott is a dangerous game round for bolt rifles. Like killing africas baddest of the bad. hehe.

i'd go with the ferret 50bmg upper...but using a scrawny ar lower to hold it all together might be a dumb idea:eek:

I might have to look into the bmg upper anyway. Any idea how much they run?

Between the 2 .458 socom , so many different rounds to choose from off the shelf for that caliber from 300 gr to 600 gr . You just dont have much of a choice with the .50 beowolf unless your reloading yourself . They are both a different breed of animal but just more choices with the .458 socom

.450 Thumper. Not really big, but big enough and you can actually use it all day.

I have the 458 and it is a great round. The 50 is nice but there are more reloading options with the 458.

Neither, get yourself a 450 Bushmaster and have amazing accuracy and the power to kill literally anything out to 200 yards and even further. Check out Texas Sheep Dawgs videos on You Tube. He's getting complete penetration on 7/16 steel plate from 50 yards with his hand loads. There are guys who have taken grizzlys with one shot. We call it the "BOOM,FLOP" effect. Ammo is cheaper and easier to find than either the SOCOM or .50 . For a big bore AR15 it's the only way to fly.
