I just traded for a reproduction 1874 Sharps in 45/70. It has the 32" full octagon barrel with the deluxe checkered walnut stocks and the long range peep sight. I'll get pics as soon as I can when I go shoot it. I've been wanting 1 of these rifles for YEARS. Now I have to get the dies and loading supplies for it.

Sweet! I would love to see some pics, especially if you could just crush a whitetail with it. :)

TXNorton has one he brought to the meet and greet. Sweet shooting rifle. Dead nuts accurate at 100. I did not get to engage any targets beyond that range.

Sounds like a helluva fine trade for you on that rifle Bear. Very nice indeed. :D

That's the same Sharps 45/70 used by Tom Selleck in them Quigley Down Under movies, yes?

It's identical to the rifle used by Tom Selleck in the Quigley movie except his was chambered in .45-110 and mine is in .45-70. I doubt I'll rechamber it to a longer cartridge.

    Bear:

Who is the manufacturer of your Sharps? Mine is a Pedersoli (Italian). Mine has the 32" octagon barrel as well. It is a very fine rifle. I shoot mine with Black Powder cartridges exclusively.

The Quigley actually has a 34" barrel.
