E154004A-4944-4D4F-A5D8-346F9C12F151.jpeg New blade! Found it and asked wifey if I could have it for Father’s Day. She said yes, of course it got here a couple of days ago and she said she’d hold on to it ‘til June. Hands it over to me at lunch time and says I can have it now. This happens EVERY year

That’s 18” ruler for reference. It’s a 2001 made Stek Custom. 1/4” spine and razor sharp. A new member of the stag family.

Excellent question! It’s actually common and rather smart on well designed big knives to have a substantial ricasso. It allows the user to choke up on the blade and use the guard the same way you use a subhilt guard. This gives you more control over the blade when you need to do some “detail” work like skinning game. In essence it gives you the power and abilities of a big camp knife and the usability of a smaller blade if needed.

Craig Steketee of Stek Knives. His work has won a bunch of awards and has been featured in Blade magazine.

I was wondering why she felt so guilty...
Or if YOU were feeling guilty because she got you such a cool knife and you got her the giant jug of laundry detergent..

Next trip to the woods, it’s going with me. But mostly I have a soft spot in my heart for custom knives and have a pretty nice collection going. Unlike other folks that collect knives I do take mine out to play. But I also decided a long time ago that use and need have very little to do with me just WANT.

I have no guilt. I just bought her a very nice new SUV, and her last gift was a top of the line Stainless Apple Watch 4. The girl does fine as far as getting what she wants since I don’t care to say no to her.

You do realize he said "guilt" from wife, not "gift." ;)

I like it. Looks like it would be a useful blade and give great grip even wet.
