Kimber

In my opinion, they are over priced.

I think Kimbers are extremely over priced. For the same price you could get an H&K

personally, they make a very good looking pistol, but with the limited warranty and the price which IMO is inflated for what you are getting, i feel there are better choices to buy.

IMHO, if I were looking for a new 1911, I'd buy a Colt.

Kinbers are fine, well made weapons, no doubt about it.

But appearance, and "Kewl Factor" are way down at the bottom of my list of things to pay extra for.

Amen to the umpteenth. Buddy has one in 40sw and I'm not at all impressed.

So what would be the right price point? They seem to run right around the same starting price as a Sig or Springfield (my Kimber Compact was $800), and slightly less than a Colt. Since that's the group Kimbers are typically compared against when talking quality, the price never seemed like an issue for me.

That said, while I have zero complaints with the Kimber, my next pistol will more than likely be a Colt.

I think those are all over priced. It's all just personal preference and individual value placement.

Kimber's entry model, the Custom II starts around that price point. They go up from there.

But isn't that about the same as the other three? Roughly $800-$1200 for the "readily available in any LGS" models, depending on the bells & whistles?

Sure, for a gun chocked full of MIM parts, a 1 year warranty, and a company with a reputation for poor customer service.

It's cool, wasn't really arguing for/against, just curious.

One year warranty is pretty tough to swallow on a gun in that price range.

I had a Tactical Ultra II and got rid of it. Using any of the Kimber mags fully loaded would fail to feed the first round, didn't matter what ammo. I now have a Sig Scorpion and it has never had an issue. I'll probably never buy another Kimber for that kind of money.

I fully agree. Kimbers are not overpriced like people make them out to be. Ive seen like models from springfield run about the same price as kimbers. When it gets right down to it, its all personal preference. I personally dont like any new colts.

The question was not asking about a 1911 it was asking about if Kimbers were worth the money.

If I were to buy a 1911 style I'm stuck between Kimber and Sig.

I think all guns are overpriced IMO, but I would continue to buy Kimbers. They are very sound and reliable firearms. They are like Pitt Bulls and have gotten a bad rap, but it doesn't make them bad firearms. What makes Colt , Ruger or S&W more valuable or desirable than Kimber? You can still pay $1500 for a Colt 1911 which IMO you are still paying for the name. You can buy a Ruger SR1911 for $688 but does that make it less of a pistol than a colt. I dont think so.

If you like Kimbers, that's perfectly ok. A lot of people do and a lot of people don't. Personally, I don't for the reasons I provided. Plenty of other options with non-MIM parts, better warranties, and better customer service record.

I would pick Sig over Kimber every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
