Even the juveniles are dangerous after watching such behavior from their mother. They need to eliminate them from the area completely.

I sense you and bears go way back. Care to tell the story?

Just one more reason to not take your gun off your hip until you disrobe to retire for the night.

I knew alligators where a big risk factor in Florida.

I remember as a kid chasing them away with my big hiking stick.

I carry a hiking stick with me now wherever I hike.

    (See avatar photo.)

They work great on black bears as well.

What is the old joke about bears, again ...

    - how can you tell if a bear is a black bear or a brown bear?

    - run to a tree and climb it, and if the bear climbs up after you, it is a black bear;

    - if you never make it to the tree, it is a brown bear!

(Never go anywhere without a big stick.)

If you hit a brown bear with a stick you are liable to just piss him off. Same goes for a determined momma black bear.

I didn't see the footage of the mother bear dragging Grandma towards the woods to maul her, thus training the bear offspring to do the same.

If I lived in that FL neighborhood, I'd be putting out poisoned bait.

I hear they love honey-dipped puppies.

yea, get a stick...like everybody is going to take that advice. this is a gun Forum, I think I will leave the stick for the dog to chew on and hip holster my 44 mag.

Maybe a stick for CA though:D

I love how so many people down here think they can tear down a bear infested forest, build a sub division in the middle of it and not expect to see bears. Then a bunch of them think they can leave food and **** out for them, not keep their trash locked up, and not expect the bears to associate you with food. They're wild animals, not to mention top predators for christs sake.

Yup, but the CA sticks have to be on the approved list and there is a three day wait before you can whittle them or use them to "prod" (not "hit" or "whack", that'll get you a fine) an offensive bear, and if you have a quick detach lanyard or a metal tip, whoooooeeeee, that'll cost you plenty in the land of the bear flag. :p

Exactly! Those developers should be required to exterminate all potential pest species within 400 yards when they build these neighborhoods.

    You know, "for the children".

    I doubt he'll ever tell.

Gello, getting a stick in KA is a 10 day wait, not a 3. Also if the stick is an assault stick it will need to be registered.

Only 400 yards? That's not that far for a bear. You're getting soft, Gello. I figured 400 miles would be closer to the right distance, coming from you.

You're being too fair to the bears by giving them 400 yards.

    :p
