I have some kids I want to take hunting with me and we need to get them equipped. I am not sure what the best rifle would be for recoil since I don't want to give them high recoil weapons. We will be hunting in an area where there is about 150 yards open in front and mostly trees surrounding it in a stand.

I think that 2 things really determine what to get you kids. If the animals that you are hunting is small or perhaps southern deer, a gun as low as a .223 could be used. A .243 is good as well. If your just shooting small game a .17 caliber is accurate and may be a good bet. Have the kids wear hearing protection this will help them in not responding to the sound of the gun as ell.

Depending on what you will be hunting, and the age of the kids, I'd say no larger than a .243 Roberts. Many gun makers are making youth models, with cut down stocks. You want to teach kids on a pretty mild rig, so they don't get beat up and lose interest. They have the rest of their lives to get beat up by big guns. :)
