Less than 4,000 made from 1959-1970 and even fewer in this configuration. Buddy of mine texted me that he got one in his gunstore and I bought it sight unseen. Topped with a vintage El Paso TX Weaver K4. Thought I’d share.

Oh, My! That is stunning. Congratulations on a great find. Is that an old Weever Scope?

Yes, sharp looking rifle. Does Steyr have a certain reputation for accuracy? Precision? Collectabilty?

All of the above? I haven't heard of them.

Thanks you gentlemen! Can’t wait to get to the range!

Also when I got to the gunstore I also spotted a MINT Mossberg model 144 Target .22 rifle with the desirable upgraded micrometer rear sight! Of course I made it a twofer .22 day!

    You

The Steyr is drop dead lovely- and I am a Mossbergaholic from wayback. You got two nice 'uns there. 144, LSA, LSB?

Low production, high quality maker, mostly known in Europe but with a long history and a strong following. Yes they have a reputation for accuracy. This particular gun had a very low production and was in its time a really high end sporting .22. Higher than the US market would bear.

Just to add to what Wambli said, Steyr-Mannlicher has been making both military and sporting arms since the 1800s. They have been on the cutting edge of certain developments throughout their history.

High honor to incur your hatred :D

I’ll check the specifics of the 144 in the morning and get back to you.

Oh, I might even hate you more than C3. But the upside is, at least you didn't find the purple-eyed double horned albino unicorn Wambli!

Seriously though, very beautiful looking rifle. That will be a nice addition to some of the other nice guns in your collection. I'm happy you found it, because I know it will have a good home with you. Congrats.

My only Steyr is a Model 1895 that started life 1918 as an Infanteriegewehr chambered in 8x50r. In 1934 it was rechambered to 8x56r, the Austrian machine gun cartridge for logistical simplicity, and had it's barrel shortened and different sling swivels attached to make it a Stutzen configuration.
