Found this at the gun show I went to today. Level 3 body armor. It has two ballistic steel plates, front and rear. A mere $150 :] Just an addition to the SHTF gear.

The idea is not to be shot! One stray shotgun pellet up or down and you are toast. Put your armour against my 100 year old technology, Bet I win. Don't be a mall ninja. I'll give you 500 yards.

Well of course that's always the idea! better safe than sorry!

I haven't got a chance to weigh it yet, i don't own a bathroom scale or anything, but it has some weight

I am just curious as to when you would wear the vest. I mean, like, do you slip it on to run down to the market for a pack of smokes?

Pretty sure he mentioned it was a new item for SHTF situations.

Anyway, cool item. Might not be the most practical, but hey if you like it and are satisfied with it then kudos.

Sure it's a cool item, but how useful is questionable.

The big problem is that there is not one SHTF situation, for hundreds of people, nation wide, every day the SHTF. The SHTF situation will come when you least expect it. Vest are like seat belts, they ain't worth a damn if you don't wear them, and you never know when you are going to need them is until it is too late. If you are in "THE SHFT" of forum lore the vest may help or not, because if you are in a condition that medical care is not immediately available, a hit to the arms, legs, or of course, the head could be deadly.

The most practical use for a vest is if you know you are going in harm's way, such as a cop or a soldier, or a bank robber. Personally, if I know I am headed in harm's way, I would make a detour.

All valid points. The main reason I picked it up was because I was able to talk the guy down from $295 to $150. Worse comes to worse I could always sell it for at least $200. I even saw brand new ballistic steel plates online for about 200$ a piece.

I wanted a MOLLE compatible vest, and the fact it has inserts for Steel plates makes it better IMO.

I will defiantly be wearing this vest more without the plates, because it suits as a normal tactical vest.

There are many SHTF situations, at the least though if an Armed intruder entered my house I would be one up on him.

i took a look online, and it seems the average weight of a steel plate is around 9 lbs. So the vest itself weighs a bit under 20lbs I would have to say.

Not bad. You can always use it as a weight training vest:p

i think its a good idea. say if you have an okay stock of goods and are hiding in your house for a time. it could save you from torso hits, shrapnel. knife thrust from looters and the like. pointless to have a ton of supplies and be dead lol.

i also think you got a really good deal too.

I'd wear it from the moment I wake up till the moment I go to bed, just to screw with people.
