I've got a Sears / JC Higgins shotgun (583.600 and I believe this is a High Standard Supermatic also) that i think has a bad extractor. There is a gap of about .055 between extractor claw and shell rim when shell is against bolt face. Every other shotgun I have looked at holds the shell against bolt face but not sure about this one. Extractor claw doesn't appear to be worn or to have been messed with but you never know.I have located a new one if it needs to be replaced. This shot gun had some cycling problems but i discovered this when i was cleaning it.

This is a gun was a grandfathers hand down to one of my 4H shooting sports kids and would like to get it back in operation again for him any help would be appreciated.

If I understand correctly you're saying it has feeding issues. It doesn't sound like you're saying it is failing to eject.
What exactly happens when you cycle a round?

Actually there were multiple problems. Shell wouldn't extract out of chamber. Discovered spring pack (pressure relief) on end of magazine tube was re-assembled wrong by someone. Also bolt and slide was gummed up from years of sitting plus it probably was never taken apart to and cleaned. no corosion, just carbon and dried up oil. Was going to assemble and test fire this weekend with existing extractor to see if it functions or not. I just seemed to me like this was something else that might be a problem when I function check. I don't see how it will insert and eject a shell the way it is. But then again I have never been into one of these shotguns.
