As the title states, I think I may have already figured out my problem. A second opinion never hurts, right? All the awesome revolver pron flying around the pics thread convinced me it was time to have some fun with my model 60. I asked my local shop owner if he had any wooden grips for a smith j frame. All he had were slim wooden frames that were clearly well loved over several decades. the price was right, so I went for it. This is my first attempt at switching grips. I ultimately want a set of badgers but I need to try a cheaper boot cut grip first. I think I'm going to exchange what I bought for a set of Pachmayrs. Does anyone else agree something is wrong in these pictures?

Definitely something wrong... they aren't J frame grips. Looks like round butt K frame from the picture.

The revolver is certainly a round butt J-frame as the coil mainspring is a dead giveaway. All K-frames use a leaf style mainspring, which is why they generally have a better trigger. The grips look like square butt J-frames - which aren't very common at all. I had an old Model 63 that was square butt but I haven't seen many...

I exchanged the square butt grip for a NEW Pachmayr. I am amazed at how much better the gun feels in my hand compared to the original grip.

    They're a beautiful thing.

Mikecu, if you were referring to the Pachmayr grip, it's the presentation series.

    round or square?

Hello I am new to the forum. I am also a little confused about whether this is a round butt or square butt in the photos. Would a square butt be more like a single action revolver? I just put a hogue grip on my pistol and it split So I may want to get a Pachmayer grip to replace it. My pistol has the same butt as this one. thanks!

Here, the difference is obvious when you can compare them side by side. ;)
