I know this is a dumb question but I'm possibly going to be shipping a mosin rifle to California and I want to insure they are legal there.

    Thanks

I don't pretend to understand the convoluted gun laws here, but I've never heard of a bolt action rifle being illegal here.

I don't know. Like I said I know very little of the full extent of the laws here... Thank God I'm leaving soon...

Probably alright since it was designed in 1891. No flash hider, no pistol grip, no detatchable mag that holds more than 10 rounds, its not black and scary, it has wood on it, and no shoulder barrel thingy that goes up, so it must be perfectly harmless.

I'm currently living in CA and yes they are. Local gun store has a few on the shelf now.

Ok thanks y'all. I was thinking they might not be legal due to the bayonet mount...

I STILL don't understand what that is. Has anyone figured it out yet?

I don't think, (In fact I'm pretty darned sure), the idiot anti-gun politician who said that still has no idea what she was talking about.

The idiot politician from New York who said that was actually referring to a "barrel shroud" AKA heat shield. They serve two purposes (other then looks on some guns). 1. They keep you from burning the hell out of your hand on a hot barrel. 2. They keep the polymer handguard from melting on certain rifles (like the AR)

Inside of an AR-15 handguard. The thin metal lining is a heat shield.

Ugh. If her moronic logic was true they'd be banning .22LR not "assault weapons."

All bolt action rifles are legal as long as you have a barrel of at least 16", it is unsuppressed, 10 round or less magazine, and less than .50 caliber. But I'm a dude on the internet so check the laws.

The underfolder stock, I guess. CA bans folders. The CA law is actually not very complex, just a long list of no-no's everybody hates to read.
