Does any one use this caliber ? It's going to be my primary deer round
Love the caliber. With a 26 inch barrel it's almost up to a .257 Weatherby mag. Don't know about Weatherby 2 line.
I like the 120 grain Nosler partition. I zip them out about 3000 fps.
I also love the 75 grain Hornady v max bullets. At 3600 fps it's devastating to rabbits and the most accurate bullet my rifle shoots.
I like IMR 4350 powder for both. Kinda light for elk but it'll do. Perfect for deer. I've taken 3 mulies from 50 to 400 yards. I took an elk at about 250 yards.
I have one of the Howa 1500s with a pigman*? Hogue stock on it. Haven't taken it hunting yet but it's deadly accurate with hornady 117grain ballistic tips
I'm not into reloading yet so it will be to cabelas for ammo need some suggestions
Hornady 117 SST Superformance. Super fast super accurate in my rifle.
The 25-06 is a grand old Ctg. It covers the board from varmints to deer. It is a great open country rifle. I would not use it on elk or moose. Yes, I know it will kill the Big animals. I also know it is marginal on bones in big critters. I don't like to see wounded animals when a bigger bullet would have been a better choice.
Pretty much a 'lighter' 270. .. If whitetail an mulies are your biggest deer. A 2506 is good choice.
I wouldnt use it for American or Canadian elk though.
I have a Marlin 7LX in .25-06. Great cartridge and rifle. Congrats on yours.
