I'm going to Bear's and I'm bringing some friends.

I was at my Dad's today and he has a rifle and a pistol. I always look at them when I'm there and today I looked at them again. Then..........I asked him if I could take them to Kentucky with me. Both guns need cleaning and one has some rust on it. I thought maybe Bear and I can spiff these guns up for my Dad.

Here's some crappy cell phone pictures......

The Marlin (and the only way I knew it was a Marlin is it says so on the gun)

Rust on the Marlin bolt that I'd like to try to clean off....

There's a little rust on the barrel, too.

This is a Browning FN, as it says so on the gun. :p This gun is pretty old. I'd say at least 30 years............maybe more. It looks dirty inside the chamber but I know better than to take it apart. :( I believe this shoots .32 caliber but I'm not sure.

Yeah, it's the same gun. It just looks different on different backgrounds due to the camera focusing on light or dark backgrounds.

What do you say, Bear. Can we clean these up for my Dad?

When I asked my Dad if I could take them to Kentucky and shoot them, he told me there is no legal way to transport the guns. I told him I transport my guns whenever I shoot them and that it's perfectly legal for me to transport them in the trunk of my car in a case. He looked at me like I was nuts but said I could take them anyway. I left the guns with him until right before I leave for Kentucky. I wouldn't want to leave my Dad with no home defense.

I believe that FN may be WWII or around there. Have Bear work his magic. Your Dad will get nice clean, functional guns back and I know you'll pick up a few pointers.

    When are you going?

Pistol looks kinda like a 1908 model browning.

I'll try to take better pictures of it and post them. I took those pictures with my cell phone. For some reason, I'm having trouble with uploading pictures from my camera to the computer. As Gilda Radner said "It's always somthing."

Bring them down and we'll see what we can do;). We'll shoot at least the Marlin for sure.

What might keep us from shooting the Browning?

Here's the best I can do on pictures of Minnie with the scope mounted. I think I need taller rings. Tell me what you think. I want to come to Kentucky with all we need to make this a very awesome, fun gun. She's already beautiful.

The back of the scope is touching the rear sight. Is there any way to set it up so I can use either open sights OR the scope? Maybe I'm asking too much.

Here's the info I found on my Dad's two guns.

    On the Marlin
"The Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn S.A. Est. 1875

    Model 81-DL .22 cal-S-L-LR

On the Browning.......I don't know if I should post the serial number on the open forum or not. But after the serial number it has

    NFC

FAbrique Nationale D'armes Deguerre Herstal Belgique
    Brownings patent Depose

    FN W9A 140

Then there is an S with a circle around it and an M on the trigger guard.

Sure we can remove the rear sight so the scope will fit without the need for taller rings. That's what I'd do but my scope never comes off my mk 2. The mk 3 is for iron sight shooting-at least for me.

I don't want to remove the rear sight. Can you link me to rings that will work for me and this Mark II? I don't know what I need.
