I just scored this today at a shop. Blueing is in great shape, small minor pitting near trigger and also small amount near backstrap. Otherwise it looks barely used. It has one of the best triggers I've ever felt on a revolver! I'm trying to figure out what year it was made. If anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Serial # is D05xxR (I changed the serial in the photo).

James,

I am pretty sure this Colt Detective Special you have with the D Series Serial Number was manufactured in 1966. I carried one off duty as a young Deputy Sheriff and for off duty. Your Detective Special is very nice and looks in new condition. "Very Nice!" :)

You can go to colts website and there is a place you can enter the serial number and it will tell you the date it was manufactured.
