Want to Get a new colt 1911 it will be used for home defense, range shooting, I also want to leave it to my son some day as an air loom, which new model should I get? Must be a colt.

I have that pistol. Changed out the GS, hammer, msh, trigger, grips and getting ready to send in the slide to Dubs for new sights. Nice guns. Make great guns to customize.
I want 'em ALL! My preference is for commander size because it balances better in my small hand & lightweights for carry. But like Pork Chop says, you can't go wrong with any of them so it's which one feels best to you.
It's spelled "heirloom". I will get a Colt too and will to shoot the heck out of it before I pass it down.
