I guess I like 3" Wheel guns

Every time I go to the gun store I wind up looking at the 3" wheel gun even when I am looking at the "newest greatest auto".
And it was lead to a 3" model 19-4, a 3" model 64, and a relatively new 3" model 629 being added to my collection.

I just now bought a Ruger SP101 in 357 magnum with the 3.06" barrel.
It was just sitting there in the used case for $389.00 I fired 80 .357 magnum
Hornady loads and 100 Magtech .38 SPL loads. It ran perfectly.

Also, I usually use, like, and prefer all wood grips. So, it was odd for me to like a set of stock rubber grips, but I really like the of the
recoil with the full house hornady loads with these grips. My only complaint was the screw head sticking out of the plastic grip
insert and cutting my hand. Furthermore, the plastic inserts were nasty looking. Then I found these on gun broker and after a
short bidding war, here are the pics: (note the recessed screw head)

And I am amazingly more accurate with it than my 1.875" model 638; even
with full house 357 Mag loads.

This is a 15 yard group with 158 grain Hornady XTP loads:

Always nice to see more SP101 pics! ... my all-time sentimental favorite.

Sound to me like your only problem is good taste! I too find so much beauty in revolvers and shoot them effectively enough that they make up about 75% of my gun collection.

Lately I've also been really liking the 3"-4" models as well.

The best part about the SP101 is that they only get better. Get yourself some snap caps and really get to know it. Mine has pretty much become a part of any and every pair of pants and shorts that I own.

Interesting set of grips. Mine came with the black serrated and had to be switched to Houges. Heck you might wanna try a set, just to make sure you really don't want them. I really like a Houge to grab on the draw, just sticks itself right in my palm with consistent hand placement.

    Have Fun!

I love my SP101!! Put a Wolf spring kit in it and polish the trigger and you'll never look back.

Great grips, RUT. A Speed Six and a GP100, right?
    Anyways, beautiful pieces.

IMHO, I think the 3 inch barrel is the best marriage of shootability and concealability.
Now it I could only get a spurless hammer for my new SP101.

Yes, there is something about three inchers. I have a couple of S&W 3", but all my Ruger Sixes come up just short.;)

I also like the 2-1/2" Smiths, they are just an extension of your hand once you get used to them. Guns with in this 2"-4" barrel range are just balanced perfectly and allow natural aim. I out shoot myself with my model 66, 2.5" vs. my 5" 1911.

I do likes me some Ruger wheel guns.
Too bad I don't own one yet:(

An SP101, a Security Six, and a Blackhawk .45LC would be quite happy in my collection:D

I don't have any 3" Rugers yet (still on the NEED list), but I do have a pair of 3" Dan Wessons.
