I get freakin tired of being called a red neck

My neck isn't even red. My friends/people who know me, tease me that I am a red neck because I love weapons. It annoys me so much because every time I hear "red neck" I think of the "you might be a red neck if" jokes. It makes me feel like a dirty person who lives in a trailer with a dog pack, has a mud pot for a front lawn, can't spell worth a damn and who has more car parts on the lawn than blades of grass. We have some of those people around here, and most of them do drugs and are horribly uneducated.

Now honestly, when I think of a gun lover I think of the supposed retired military personal or someone who thinks old fashioned. I consider them hillbillies or woodsman. I prefer the term woodsman. In fact, a book in my series will be entitled, "The Woodsman".

My question is, do you all feel the same way?

No, I don't feel that way. Even living in Arkansas I don't get called a redneck. Only by internet morons who feel the need to insult me because of my location, but who cares about them? :)

My friends call me redneck, my brother in law(city boy) calls me a redneck because I hunt, like guns, don't mind being outside, can actaully work in more then one field and I'm a man. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about it. Just my $.02

What is wrong with that? I represent that comment.

How can you tell if a redneck is married? There's dried tobacco juice on both sides of his pickup truck.

Luckily I don't know very many people who would refer to me as a redneck. Those that would, I wouldn't hang around with anyway. I've been called hick, geek, nerd, MF'er and every other name in the book. They are just labels small minded people use because they can't understand people with more than one dimension. Besides, being from KY, a gun owner and such scares the piss out of my wife's ex-husband, so it's all good. :p

It reflects of their person. I like a man for who he is. I find it dumb though when they do not give a **** how they look or if they keep their things looking like ****.

That is a new one for me. lol

When it hits the fan, who do you think they'll look to for resources?

I get called a squirrel eatin' redneck by just about everyone I work with/out work (mostly Hispanics), and even my wife. I don't mind the label one bit. I'm not afraid to get dirty, put in a days work that would kill many a man, I'm resourceful enough that if something isn't working how it's supposed to, I'll find a way to make it happen with any material/tools available, I can live on very minimal accommodations for periods of time and enjoy every bit of it. And if that ain't enough. . . at least they're complementing my whiteness. :)

Next time you get called a redneck, just say thanks.

I, too, live in Arkansas and sometimes get tired hearing the elitist attitudes of some people in our country. Usually, its those who consider themselves the "open minded" ones. I've been to the largest cities in the nation and have spent time in Bucksnort Tn. I try to understand the ignorance of people who think that cramming 20 million people in an area that is 15 miles by 15 miles means your very sophistocated. I can't understand why people would choose to live in an urban environment compared to having some space. I don't like red necks either as a general rule. I don't like ignorant city folk who would starve to death without a restaurant an every block any more than rednecks.

I've been called a redneck by NH natives. My comment is simple. I'm an educated man from the NY suburbs that decided I could make my own decisions about how to live life. So I move up here w/ you uneducated, undersized pussies not realizing socialist trash is everywhere.

I had a son-in-law that was from Arkansas and he wore his redneck pride like a badge of honor. This young man knew who he was and where he came from and was damned proud of it. Don't ever forget that "sticks and stones" BS, cause it's true. Don't ever let words tear you apart, because if you do, you lose.

In the words of Jeff Foxworthy, if the chain on your wallet is longer than the chain on your dog, you just might be a redneck. That use to be me and I'm not even from the south.
