I didn't see a general Gun forum that would include rifles and handguns so I'll ask this here and in the fifle forum....

I keep a couple hundred rounds of three different types of ammo.

Am I an ammo horder? Does that seem excessive?

What's your ammo stock look like ?

It's only hording if you keep a couple of hundred rounds on hand for each gun, and you have a couple of hundred guns. :D

I'm about where you are on ammo. I generally keep a couple hundred rounds on hand for most of my guns, and a few extra rounds for a couple of my guns.

Not enough. I have about 100 rounds for each of guns save for .22, I have about 1000 rounds of that since it's so cheap. I would like to have more on hand for certain guns.

I've probably got 20K rounds.

About a third of it is 22lr. I like to keep a few thousand each of 9mm, 223rem, and 45acp...and then 500 or so of the various other rounds that I shoot. Remembering the supply situation about 3 years ago has resulted in my steady accumilation over the past couple years.

BTW- The supply has been drying up in recent weeks. Retailers are blaming massive government purchasing of 9mm, 40sw, 45acp, 223, and 308.

I'm super low on ammo right now :( I have 120 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .22 (need to go buy another 500 round box today because I have never been this low on .22) and only 10, 30-06 rounds.

I would say, I have approx 100 rounds of rifle, 50 rounds of revolver, 100 shotgun shells, and 500 rounds of 45ACP.

That's because 100 rounds of rifle will last me about 20 years.

50 rounds of revolver would last me about 10 years.

100 shotgun shells would last me forever; I virtually never shoot these.

And 500 rounds of 45ACP would last me about 50 years.

I don't shoot a lot.

The most important thing is to practice your draw with your H/D weapon 15 times per day with snapping caps in front of a mirror.

Its the same way with swordfencing and martial arts -- you need to practice in front of a mirror.

That tells you more about smoothness and stance than anything else you can do.

I normally only go to the range about once a year. If that.

I would go nuts if I only went to the range once a year. Also, I want to stockpile ammo 'just in case of emergency'.

While i agree that it's very important to practice drawing and readying your SD weapon, range time with that weapon is even more vital. The smoothest fastest draw in the world won't do diddly squat if you can't hit where you're aiming.

I try to keep about 5k rounds for my rifles, 500 JHP, and 1k FMJ rounds for each my handguns, and 500 2 3/4 00 buckshot for 12 gauge.

But i am trying to increase my little stockpile when i can :D

In case of an emergency, I would need to eventually bug-out.

I live in a major city-scape and a major city-scape would be unsurvivable in the event of an emergency.

And bugging out does not lend itself to tons of ammo.

In that case I would only bring the 45ACP and the shotgun.

And then try to make it to Colorado to my sister and brother in law.

A shotgun is an excellent anti-zombie weapon and the USMC used them in Viet Nam. We also trained with them in Infantry Basic School.

Since I therefore won't be bringing my scoped rifle or revolver with me in the event of an emergency, I do not stockpile ammo for them.

It's going to be more important for me to stockpile water and gasoline if it ever comes to that.

500rds of .40S&W
1500rds of .223/5.56

Those are the points i start to order more ammo. That ammount gives me 1-2 days on the range before im out of ammo.

Too much is never enough. I buy ammo and components as I find deals. I have a pretty good stockpile.

A LOT depending on the gun and how often I shoot it.
500+ .223/5.56
about 100 .30-06
about 50 loaded .257 WBY MAG and about 50 brass lots of bullets
Over 1000 .22lr
A couple boxes of 12ga
200+ .45auto but again lots of brass and bullets
A few boxes of 17hmr that's the gun I always start the girls out on so they aren't afraid of the bing ones
Over 100 .357 mag and brass and bullets
I'm probably forgetting stuff too

And it's all stored away from my guns (except my EDC witch is always on me)
