What do you think of this?

Does it seem like they are opening themselves up to some legal issues perhaps?

Bought some for my .45. Guy at the gun store said it was basically the same as their Critical Defense round. True or not, I can't be sure but the specs on the box seemed the same, and it was cheaper.

Yeah! Firstly let me give you all a big......:D:p:):D:D bunch of smileys......I am not all bent out of shape about this. I like the box design, the concept, like the marketing idea etc, from the point of view of humor, novelty etc and if I see some in my local store......I am buying some.

However......in a shooting trial........to me it seems the lawyers for a person killed or injured with this ammo, will have a field day with this...... even if their client was clearly shot in self defense.

I can see them grilling the law abiding person in court, a decent citizen who shot a long time felon during a vicious and unprovoked attack.... and out of fear for his life .... " So why did you buy this particular ammunition? Isn't it true you expected a problem like this to unfold at some point and in a way wished it would? Isn't it true that you were actually planning for such an event and therefore wanted ammunition designed to kill more efficiently? So you stocked up on it. Isn't it true that you were not satisfied with the stopping ability of regular ammunition so you bought ammunition specifically designed to rip and slash human tissue to shreds? "

And forget about it if you hit the person in the head, by accident or not. They might say it was deliberate. Like it said to do on the box.

I dunno, I am not a lawyer but this is the kind of stuff they come up with.....totally over the top, and even when you walk on the criminal charges........using this ammo in a defense shooting might not help your civil case a darned bit.

There was a similar deal with Black Talon handgun ammunition, the bullet designed in such a way as to peel back so it would rip through body tissue, causing a much worse wound cavity than a regular hollow point bullet. And of course, way way more than regular ball. Some detractors even claimed armor piercing capability, based off the black coating-which was false. Winchester eventually made it LEO and then discontinued it. They now have Ranger SXT (Same 'Xact Thing?:D)

Yeah it's a novelty....humerous etc...... and I see the fun in it. But with the anti-gun climate as bad as it is and looking to get much worse maybe......... shouldn't we be doing everything possible to clean up the image of the law abiding gun owner? Does this really help that cause?

Just me but my prediction is that this will be short lived and they will go back to just calling it Critical Defense or whatever it really is. Someone suggested the specs were the same. Maybe it is a temporary ploy to get more people buying their regular line? After a while they pull it and say "oh this is the ....same exact thing". LOL!

I mean...they have made the preemptive move in putting on the box that it is not a toy etc.....like they are anticipating problems. The whole thing smacks of risky and unnecessary to me.

Just me....sorry for the long post.

I agree with you 100% Scott. I got a laff out of it......and like I said, I'll buy it if I see it. These are serious and dangerous times we are in though.....as relates to our right to keep and bear arms. I just question if this is the best time to be light hearted about such a thing.

I don't know if you will ever see this on the shelf. I had mine on order with Midwest for about 3 months or more before the call came that it was in. Heck yeah I still wanted it. Will I ever shoot it? Heck no. This is for S's&G's, something to bring out on halloween and laugh at. Why in the world would I ever use it? Got some 308, 223 and 45 ACP in my stash now.

Bless Hornady and I will continue to buy their ammo because I like it, it shoots well in my guns, and I kinda think they believe that lawyers are support staff, not management. Just like I do.

So it's just a sort of fast run thing....... a novelty-based deal that is lighthearted and really aimed at folks buying a few boxes as a collectible item perhaps, a conversation piece sort of thing? Like Coke, Pepsi and others might do during seasonal promotions etc?

Or do you think this is a packaging that will last a while?

I don't know Hornady's past with this sort of thing......and yeah I think the idea is great.... it's funny and kinda goes hand in hand with the zombie targets available.

I 'spose I am just being overly sensitive because everything I read from the NRA, Frontsight and other sources is how this administration is gearing up to nail our gun rights. For example Fast & Furious was all about gun control, with almost nothing to do with busting drug cartels... according to many.

So I was just wondering about it from a image POV ......y'know, with all the character assassination, personal attacks and any other way to destroy the opposition that this administration seems to be engaged in. Really dirty pool being played right now......it always is, but it seems worse than I have ever seen.

But you know...... based on what you guys are saying and in looking at it with more of an open mind, I'm almost ready to applaud Hornady. In the sense that they are not actively seeking transparency, hiding behind walls of legal political correctness etc....it's in your face and like "yup, here we are, shooting is meant to be fun and enjoyable so what's the problem exactly?"

I am watching the live feed of the Fast & Furious hearing......friggen Maxine Waters just launched her questions.......now Mr Hank Johnson from Georgia is talking about the (loose quote) "loophole in our gun control laws so big you could fly a space shuttle through it........in that there are 1000's of gun shows around the country that sell 1000's of firearms to ANYONE...... unknown numbers of unknown gun owners selling unknown numbers of weapons to unknown individuals........ now he just said "the NRA and other 2nd Amendment radicals..."

This is why we have to be so careful....... there are so many idiots in positions of power.

Somewhere I heard that FEMA is embracing the "zombie invasion" as a good way of teaching preparedness. If you think about it it makes sense.

I used to think it was stupid and only for those kids that got bored w/ WOW, but it really is kinda fun.
