My wife wanted to buy new cabinets for the kitchen. She was looking at the cheapo particle board cabinets at Home Depot and Lowes. I told her I could build better ones at home for less. I am using all red oak for the doors and frames. The boxes themselves are 1/2 in ply with a 1/4 red oak on top. The Home Depot cabinets would have run about $1,500 by the time we bought the trim and the other accessories to go with it. I am in it about $600 including some nice new tools!

Here is how it is going so far. This will be the one under the sink. 8 more to go. They will be a Red Chestnut Finish when done. What do you guys think?

It was a lot more work than I had expected. I made a set for our old house about 10 years ago. I forgot how dificult it can be. But I am really happy with the results so far.

Thanks. I am thinking that when I am done I could make a very nice presentation case for my old 586. That should be a fun project!

I can't believe how long this took. The cabinets are finally in! I did the tile floor about a month ago. It is finally coming together. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I still have to do some caulking and painting. And I will be puting in new countertops too. Now I need to make something nice for me. Maybe some kind of gun storage for the camper.

Very very nice!!! Plus the fact that you made them yourself. Did you incorporate hidden weapons compartments? :)

Very nice! I work for a custom cabinet shop. I apply the finish to them. They get very expensive!

Great job Rick! Your kitchen tiles look a lot like what we put in our kitchen recently

Well i forgot i said i was going to make a gun case. I guess i will work on that when i have time. But I made a few things for the lady of the house. My wife is awesome. I wish I had more time. Anyway, she has been doing a shabby sheilk kind of thing in the dining room. And now it is spilling over into the livinig room. I made the lamp about a year ago. But now she wanted a table with a drawer to go by our love seat. It goes with some shelves that i made last year too.

Well that is weird. I uploaded the pics three times. They were right side up on my tablet. But they keep loading sideways.

I dabble with wood working, and enjoy it a lot. I know enough to know how nice your cabinets are, and how much work goes into a project like that. Congrats on a job well done.

Rick, I always admire great craftsmanship, and your work is superb.

There is a difference between carpenters and cabinet-makers. You have shown that distinction.

Great stuff! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you very much everyone. I took a woodshop class in high school 30 some odd years ago. I learned a lot by working on remodeling projects on hud homes when i was young. But honestly most of what I know I taugnt myself by doing. When ever I am going to build something with expensive wood I experiment with pine first in case I screw it up.
