the wife and i used to use our bcm carbines but we switched to the ak47 simply because if we had to use em its better to lose a elcheapo ak47 to the evidence locker for a few months than a really nice pricy ar15.

AR15 is the only rifle I own that would be practical in home defense...but one of my two shotguns would likely be the first thing I grabbed out of the safe.

A lever action 30-30 is one of the few deer rifles that make a good home defense rifle. I have one but opt for the shotgun instead when I need a go to long gun.

I like my Marlin .44 mag. Got .44 spec gold dots for first 3, then .44 mag soft point 240s.
We occasionally have problems with large critters.

My rifles are a last resort home defense after the pistols and shotguns. But if needed my rifle of choice is the AR-15. But if we are talking close range I would prefer my AR-22.

I would have to say my SKS is the most practical HD weapon I have. I have a 10 round stripper clip on my nightstand and the rifle and bayonet are at the ready on the wall above me. It's more of my 3rd line of defense. Alarm system, a blue heeler that barks at the slightest movement anywhere near the fence, then the SKS.

I would be stuck with an AR. I shoot my SKS way more than the AR. In my collection the AR is a dust catcher. It can't compete with a 30/06 as a hunting rifle. For plinking the SKS and the 22 wmr are both cheaper to shoot.

home or property defence? have quite a few that could be used depending upon the need or circumstances of the situation at hand. but would more than likely go to a shotgun for most needs over a rifle if a long gun were needed.

My 45acp is my 1st choice followed by my 870. If I was gonna use a rifle it would be my AR. I also have a mini-14, 10/22, 9mm carbine that would work in certain situations in and around the home. I also have a couple different .22 pistols I wouldn't hesitate to use if I had to inside the home.

AR15 carbine w/ a 30 round mag gives you a lot of wiggle room. I like my 870 but it's a long barrel (hard to maneuver) and when those five rounds are gone, it takes a bit to reload.

It would have to be my ar also. Only short rifle we have, but that 12ga pump full of 4 buck would be a close second.

I can't afford an Ak or Ar yet but I think only a really dumb criminal wouldn't be scared of a Winchester

the only rifle I own I would consider for home defense is my Volunteer Commando mark 45.

all my other centerfire rifles are bolt guns with scopes aside from my Remington 7600, but a 30-06 would just be ridiculous for me to use. besides I live in town, anything on the property is within shotgun & handgun range.

There are a few HD handguns and a 92 lb German Shepherd that go with that, lets call it, last line of defense.

What an awful mindset you all have developed.

Break into my house, you'll be found beaten

half to death, bleeding, out in the street,

eventually. Maybe the folks who find you

    will call the

police, before the crows eat your eyeballs.

Break into my house, ya little SOB.

Do you guys really want your guns taken?

as well as the break-in damage to your

home? If I shoot somebody, they can

    consider themselves lucky, but it

    ain't likely.
