History channel is one of my favorites, but like anything else on TV only some of what they say is factual. The part on the M-16 was missing a lot of information at best and wrong in parts about the use and howgood the rifle was in Vietnam.

That's true but they did a really good job within the time constraints they had. Hell they never talked about the actual M16 (my first issue) they pretty much skipped over it and went straight to the M16a1. My first had triangle hand guards that actually said “made by mattel” inside.

Yes and if you remember back in the dark ages of the cave man the M-16 rifle had the "M-16" over stamped the Colt designation of AR-15, and it looked like they had it done by a bunch of convicts at the local prison.

To date I have yet to actually see any M-16 handguards actually stamped "Mattel". I know, there are those that swear they saw it. I will not believe it until I see it.
The original M-16's sold to the Air Force were stamped AR-15. This was before they were accepted/adopted by DoD and gained the M-designation.
