im looking to upgrade from my current pos to a good reliable gun but my price range is limited. Ive shopped aronud and i found a smith & wesson 9mm at a pawn shop it looks it looks to be in good cond. i talked him down to 300 bucks is that a good buy? my other options rao a kel-tec 9mm 250 or a cobra 9mm for 220. is the s&w really worth the extra money? i want it for home protection and occasional range use mostly.

First off, stay away from pawn shops when looking for your very first sidearm. If you aren't very familiar with the current average prices in your area, and the MSRPs of the pistols you are looking at, you may get taken for a ride.

Stick with getting something brand new from a regular dealer if you can.

What kind of Smith and Wesson were you looking at?

Have you looked at the Ruger lineup of pistols )specifically the P series)?

What "POS" do you currently own?

Welcome to the forum, take some time and introduce yourself on the new member/introduction thread.

What model is the S&W? There are many S&W 9mm semi auto's. S&W is a better manufacturer than the other two you posted but it's hard to give any more information with out knowing more about the pistols in question. As much as manufacturer is a good question, the model and condition are as important.

With more information you will get some truly good advice from members.

Welcome! Listen to these guys on gun issues; collectively, they really seem to know their stuff & are very helpful.

Re: buying stuff, there is a "marketplace" on here with some vendors & individuals.

I need to inform you that proper etiquette around here is posting a picture up of every new firearm purchase you make. We wanna see that new 9mm of yours.

With that said, we are all expecting a nice picture of your new pride and joy with a quickness.

Otherwise, we will have to send Canebrake after you, and he'll invade all of your future posts with pictures of Colts and Colt related things......

    :D

P.S. I own a Sigma .40 caliber, and I consider myself pretty familiar with the model (the 9mm and .40 are the same design). If you have any questions about the Sigma, feel free to ask anytime.

The S&W is definitely the better pistol of the three.

dsmith, that is a good looking pistol!! And you have make a giant leap forward from the Lorcin. Another bad thing about the Lorcin is that it is too light to use as a boat anchor!!
