Cannot speak to the .40, but have a Hi-Power in 9mm. Other than a set of Hogue grips, and an ambi-safety, is pretty much stock. If a S&W Mdl 10 fits your hand, it will fit. Digests factory or handload ammo without a hiccup, more accurate than I am. Field strips in 20 seconds. John Browning looked at the 1911, and said "Hmm- ya know, I think I could do better.....".
Of course, IS a single action, has a magazine safety, which some folks don't like- but IMNSHO, you could do a lot worse. 14 rds of 9mm in a fairly compact package.
