hey im new to the forum, from cali.
im trying to find out what type of rifle i should get for coyotes, prairie dogs and other predators. i have a remington model 7 in 7mm-08 and a weatherby 300 magnum.

Get a 22-250,
remington has a nice one for about 499.00 (heavy barreled, pre-drilled for scope, synthetic stock. A good varmint gun.
Ammo is a good price too.

Welcome aboard. Everybody has there opinion on varmint calibers but I would say at least a .222 or .223 if you are also going after cyotes.

nothings wrong with the 300 weatherby...
just costs $3 a shot... i shot my mule deer at 463 yards with it in 2006.
i just want something small to have fun with and to be cheap...

.223 if you want to take coyotes, .17 HMR if you don't.

ok so the 17 is better than a .204? ive been really looking into them and the .17 looks to be cheaper but i was thinking about getting the .204 right now and then once i moved or could afford it id get a .17 so that way there my girl would have something to shoot... and my younger sis... and for me if i wanted a gun to carry around to hunt with...
