Does anybody have a good idea of what a good hunting rifle would be??
You're going to have to be more specific.
One that meets your states caliber laws and goes bang and puts rounds inside a 2" circle at 100 yards.
What and where are you hunting? What range of shots do you typically have, 50 yards or 300 yards? We need details!
The 270 is a good all a round caliber for deer up to elk many years ago there was a author for outdoor life that took his 270 all round the world . That is just IMOP
I'm going to have to go with the 30-06 without specific details on how far your shooting or what your shooting at
Wellllll i use a 458 socom and a 458 winmag for my hunting needs deer and pig and up. For rabbits either a longbow a 45acp(headshots) or a 22lr pistol. Yotes its a ar15 in 5.56.
If you are going to Africa a .460 Weatherby Magnum is hard to beat!
Wild bore and Texas. And normaly its about a 75 yard range
Since it i such a short range a 25-06 and up should do the job just fine. I would personally use the .270, .308 or the .30-06.
You want help? First, try to refrain from pissing everybody in the
universe off by abusing the world's vaguest thread title "help".
You want to schmuck up a question like that? Fine.
The answer is YES. WE have an idea.
Are you getting the impression your own medicine sucks yet, OP?
A Savage bolt action in .30-06..............
Whatever fits you can't go wrong with 308 up to 3006
Mosin Nagant usually about $100 ammo is super cheap you might have to do a little work on it but it's pretty much a russian 308 they're older rifles.
NATO= 7.62X51 (basiclly 308)
Mathmaticly speaking there pretty close but if you don't have a ton of money its a good solution
That was the late Jack O'Conner. I still have his book, The Complete Book of Rifles and Shotguns, first published in 1961. I am 60 now and I got the book when I was 12. When I was 16, I got my first real rifle, a .270, all because of Jack O'Conner.
I bought a 270 an shot a deer with it great gun
Thank you very much for that. I could not remember Jack O'Conner name he two was why I got a 270 Thanks again.
Merry Christmas to all and have Happy New Year !
I live in tx and I use my 30-30 to hunt hogs at that range when I'm not using my ar 7.62x39
I have a mossin nagat in a carbine version. 7.62X54 would the shorter barrel make a difference??
The shorter barrel from my experience does not really effect the power of the round that much, it still has plenty of power to take down deer or even hogs. Most of the accuracy depends on how good of a shot you are, I've shot a M44 and the 91/30 at 100yrds and had some good groups with both.
