I have a NEF survivor 12ga single shot that I got on trade. I'm not sure if its nickel or stainless, I also don't know what's going on with the metal if its rusting or pitting. It has little specs all over the pictures suck but if you can tell give me some advice anything would be appreciated thanks . (NEF SURVIVOR 12 GA SB1)
A good restoration guy Would fill the pits with copper and renickel it but that would be worth more than its: worth . Use. A product called Evapo-rust to remove the rust from the pits first . Then oil it. Oiling over rust don't work just slows it down . You can use the evapo-rust and a tooth brush to remove the rust completely with out harming the finish
Don't use steel wool on a nickel plated gun. It will scratch the nickel plating.
A good restoration guy would bead blast the old finish (and pits) off the gun and renickel.
I'm not sure about using Evaporust on nickel plating, either.
Evapo-rust will not harm the nickel it non caustic. And bead blasting the pits smooth will look like hell when its renickeled. All the divets show up we do a lot of restoration work. And only in cases were restoration will not harm the value. I don't think that is a concern in this case.. I believe that gun was electro plated with stainless any way an yes stainless will rust and any nicks in allows the base to pit good luck how ever you deal with it
I disagree. I do a lot of restoration work- it's my job.
Regardless- the gun is plated with electroless nickel.
It's certainly not bad enough to remove/replace the finish.
As I said- WD-40 on a coarse cloth for a few days.
If wipe it down with acetone and let set in a warm spot by a heater, then wipe exteriour with linseed oil and let set till its past tacky and then add another couple coat.
Then Id use the hell outta it.
It Looks like itd be a great for NW Arctic rabbit, spruce grouse and willow ptarmigan.

I'd say there's no need to be Art. You have to let some of them go to have enough for the next season.
Rex, how close were you when you took that picture? Great stalking skills if you were as close as i think you were. That's something my uncle use to teach in the USAF, using photography as a jumping off point. In his own words:
"It's a hell of a lot harder to get within camera range then it is to get within range for your weapon."
concidering that it is not worth a lot . I would use DURACOAT as the finish . sand out the 1st coat or 2 with 400 until you don't see the pits . Duracoat now has metal looking finishes you could use there nickel color. just for it to look original at a lot less than having it restored .
