I have a set of grips from a J frame S&W circa 1972. The left grip was carried body side and as you can see quite stained and off color from the right side. Anyone have any ideas how to bring the original color back without redoing the right side too?

Use stripper and a toothbrush to strip it down to bare wood and refinish to match. The stripper should take it down to where it'll finish the same color as it was originally.

Thanks Bear, I'll give it a shot. Worst that can happen is that I end up having to do both.

It is better to redo both grips that way they match perfectly. I spray dollar store oven cleaneron my grips and stocks that need stripped the go over them with 0000 steel wool rinse with water if needed spay any spots you miss and go back over them it takes less time than wood stripers do. Stain what ever color you want and for a nice finish hand rub them with true-oil. I use 3 to 6 coats depending on the amount of shine you want them to have. I like the true-oil because it brings out the natural wood grains.
