I am looking at buying my first 1911 pistol this year and I am looking for some feedback on certain models. I am from Massachusetts, and in Mass you can only buy guns that appear on the Attorney General's Approved Firearms List. And there are only a few manufacturers that bother with Massachusetts since the laws are so confusing. A few of those manufacturers that offer a 1911 pistol would be Remington, Sig Sauer, Para Ordnance, and Smith and Wesson. I've heard great things about S&W but they are a little out of my price range, and the rest are within the range that I am looking for. I have little to no experience or feedback on any of the Remington, Sig, or Para 1911 pistols. Please help a fellow firearm guy out! Thanks in advance for your help.

I always try to support the local economy first.
    Any manufacturers in you area?
How about the state? (Scratch that, S&W is there.)

    Keep the American people employed.

I would scratch Para off the list. A lot of their model use weird specs and aren't exactly a "true" 1911. You'll run into issues if you ever decide you want to replace some parts with other 1911 parts. Not saying that they're bad guns, they're just not interchangeable with actual 1911 parts.

How about a USA made Springfield Armory Micro Compact in OD?

OK gotta throw my Sig input here, go to a lgs and go pick up a Sig and feel it in your hand. They are so underrated and mine has been proven extremely reliable.

I can't find the "Official List" but the 2010 derived list that I did find has Armscor/Rock Island on it. They are decent guns and are a blessing for the price sensitive buyer.

    Armscor Precision:
    Rock Island 1911 A-1 GI .45 ACP
Rock Island 1911 A-1 GS CS Blue .45 ACP
Rock Island 1911 A-2 GI FS Blue .45 ACP
Rock Island 1911 A-2 GI MS Blue .45 ACP

I would go for the Remington R1. I bought one about 6 months back and fell in love with it, not sure why but some people don't like them. I've never had a problem except for crappy gun show mags. I got mine in the OD green version but I have seen the standard blued version in the 500 range.
