Hi, newbe to the forum. Retired navy and wanted to build a 1911 from parts. Got the AGI armors course, did a lot of reading and decided to give it a try.
I am pretty well into putting together a 1911 government modle. I have been able to assemble with the help of a lot of 600 grit paper an a set of needle files. Everything seems to work pretty well. However, when I install the slide lock, the slid will not return to battery by about .050. this seems to prevent the disconector from rising into position and also prevents the manual safty from sliding up into the frame. It appears that lug on the bottom of the barrel is hitting the slid stop and preventing the barrel and slide from moving forward the last fraction of an inch.
Can I take a round file and relieve the lug enough to allow the slide to close or am I in over my head.
