Looks like "His Honor, the Mayor" is in for a short career. But with a name like "Outlaw", what would you expect?
And New Bern is to Cherry Point what Tia Juana is to Coronado.

If you read other articles the mayor was concerned about violence between the officers family and the perpetrators family so he had the sheriffs department oversee both memorials. The sheriffs department, not the mayor canceled the officers service so it could be moved to a private location.

Moving the officers service to a private location was the best thing for the family. It's hard enough to lose a loved one without a riot at the memorial service.

What service the mayor chose to attend is another matter.

Logistically it makes sense to eliminate the chance of problems at the officers funeral. Out of respect for the fallen officer and his loved ones I would expect no less from the other agency.

As for the mayor I would suggest castration, but that would require he had a pair in the first place.
