An handi-rifle barrels be swapped out for different calibers?
Absolutely. But the only caliber I have is a .280 Rem.
So you could get a 45-70 barrel ad shoot it if you already have a 500 S&W?
Not always, and it is a factory job. H&R says: "We do not sell additional barrels outright. All barrels must be factory fitted."
And they do list a 45/70 barrel.
H&R 1871 - Barrel Accessory Program
That is correct-
Its very likely that another barrel wud work but I wud NOT take the chance
H&r1871 under customer support go to barrel program if u have a sb2 handi they can fit any shotgun or rifle to it except rimfire. But it has to be the sb2 frame which the model will say sb2 handi rifle
Also the rifle barrels are only $114
Thats my point- It has to be FITTED -
Yeah I wanted to know if the barrels would be interchangeable. If it has to be fitted I'd be better off buying another rifle to shoot the 45-70
My favorite pairing !
Agree, I bought my 45/70 for just over $200 a few yrs ago
So they don't need to be fitted? What calibers are they?
Every barrel must be fitter go to h&r1871 read it it tells u step by step
I didn't see it on there.
Go to the bottom of the home page, click on customer support, then choose barrel program it will have full detail on what to do
Handi rifle or another rifle?
Thanks for the pointers. Never would have looked there.
U bet by, the way, my handi serial number begins with NM wich means it was built in 1999 so therefor I cant get any other barrel other than shotgun barrels, becouse the frame is the gen 1 sb2 only frames made after I believe 2000 qualify for optional rifle barrles to be fitted
I guess my point is call h&r first give them yer serial number to check before u get yer hopes up
