We have an amazing Scottish fest every year!
They serve Haggis, but since Sheep lung is banned from the USA market, it’s not the same at all, the flavor is just poor.
Went to Ireland, Scotland, years back, ate the real deal, was amazing, the spices, mouth texture, flavor, etc!

Most of what we have here in the US is canned yuk!

Hey do have Irn-bru at a local Irish import shop, which is the greatest hangover cure and close to V-8 with pepper and 7-9 cayenne shakes in a 24 oz ice cold morning after drink!

the Irn-bru is great, but it has even changed past years, ingredients are not the same, but still tastes the same!

anyway, any Haggis fans here, (real Haggis), not the import canned spiced yukkness!???

    Cheers

It's a scientific fact, Scotsmen have an extra gene that inhibits good taste. Hence, haggis, plaid skirts, and animal bladders as musical instruments.

I was stationed in the Azores from Dec 86 through March 88. Every Jan 25th, the Scottish sister squadron to the USAF wing in the Azores would celebrate "Robert Burns Night". The Scottish sister unit was stationed in the Azores during WW-II.

It was a big deal! They would fly in, we would celebrate and party, and in the evening have a formal dinner, replete with speeches and honorarium. And (of course) a lot of drinking. We were all dressed in our finest uniforms. When the meal arrived, it included Haggis as the main course. I had never even heard of it...

Other comments aside, it was about the most disgusting taste I have ever experienced - even worse than liver-and-onions. And this was true Haggis brought in by the Scottish squadron. The main course aside, it was a wonderful experience and a great time had by all, well into the night and the early morning! I had the honor to experience this twice in my tour, but with the benefit of my first experience, I knew better the second time and enjoyed a meal just before we convened. Wonderful camaraderie and our Scots brothers in arms enjoyed the reactions of the first-timers to Haggis.

Haggis is proof positive that if a person is hungry enough,,,
They'll get used to eating just about anything,,,
Then say "It's great!" to save face.

After several vacations spent visiting my wife's extended family in France I asked her once what did the French do with all the meat with a bone. They never seemed to serve anything but "sweetbreads" of some type or another.

Being the "American guest seated at the head of the table" I ate it all with gusto and a smile of appreciation while my stomach gurgled in protest. Of course, liberal quantities of wine helped the situation.

They do know how to make wine!! :)

Had Haggis a couple times when the sub pulled into Faslane.

First was in Balmoral chicken. A chicken breast stuffed with Haggis.

Several Scots I met said they don’t eat the stomach, which is used as a casing, but they will eat the stuffing like mad.

Second time was with eggs at breakfast.

Both times I ate it, it was served loose or out of the casing. I was pleasantly surprised by the favor of the spices and just reminds me of crumbled sausage.
