Someone ask me to look up the value of a gun. I haven't seem the firearm, but she wrote down some info. The information states: Baldwin American double barrel shotgun 12 or 20 gauge 152645 I assume it is the serial number. Anyone know if this is proper manufactures name? Value

Joseph Vorisek's "Shotgun Markings: 1895-1940, A List" shows BALDWIN & CO. LTD, a New Orleans, La. importer of Belgian made double barrels.

Also shown is A. BALDWIN & CO. LIMITED with various patent dates, Dec. 1, '91;
Aug. 11,' 96; May 27, '02 either singularly or combined on shotguns manufactured by W. H. Davenport Arms Company.

W. H. Davenport Arms Company operated under that name from 1891 to 1910, but had been bought by Hopkins and Allen Arms Company in 1902 who continued the Davenport line.

Davenport doubles are seldom seen in the marketplace.

Value on a trade name Davenport double would range from $175.00 (poor condition) to $800.00 + (excellent condition) depending on condition, model and shootability (Damascus or fluid steel barrels).
