Getting back into shooting after a long break (over 30 years) .......was wondering which type of oil is best to use? I have found "regular" oil, Synthetic Gun Oil, Oil with silcone....without silcone, etc... Will one type/brand, etc...work for both handguns and rifles/shotguns or do I need a certain type for each type of weapon. Plus's and minus's for each type.
Also goes for cleaning products........there seems to be alot out there after looking around on the internet.........what are the best type of cleaning products to use for the different types of weapons. Learned long ago that there is usually one maybe two ways to do anything correctly and hundreds of ways to do it the wrong way..... thanks.

Personally speaking I have had good results keeping it simple...a bottle of Hoppes 9 for cleaning and a light coating of oil, either Hoppes or Mobil 1 work fine. Some like to use a bit of moly grease on rifles. A good solvent for getting lead or copper residue out of the barrel is useful as are a good set of brushes and lots of cotton pads.

For cleaning I use Hoppes #9 and Hoppes Copper solvent and gunslick foaming bore cleaner.

For lube I use a combo of moly grease and Mobil 1 0w40 synthetic oil.

I also use Hoppe's #9 for most of my cleaning. I have a few different types of oil that I have tried, my favorite being Hoppe's Elite gun oil.

i like hoppes #9 for bore cleaning. for every other part of the gun i use breakfree clp. others have different choices ranging from motor oil to cutting edge synthetics.

ive never had issues with clp. i like it because it doubles as a lubricant and general purpose cleaner meaning i only have to carry one bottle on extended hunts.
