Ive always liked guns magazine. I've found it to be interesting and informative. I especially like the campfire tales section in the back that's written by John Taffin.
Gun rags are more like infomercials than anything else. If your waiting to see a gunrag say anything negative dont hold your breath. If jimenez sent in one of their guns for review to gunsandammo all you would see is its the next great must have gun for bear hunting...
For reviews that are reported to be unbiased, 'Gun Tests' magazine is supposed to be good. They are kinda the 'Consumer Reports' magazine for guns, not accepting gun ads. I hear that they also go out & purchase the guns off the shelf rather than use a hand picked one provided by the manufacturer.
Of course, their rating includes price so a pistol that maybe lacks a little in fit & finish could possibly score same as a higher priced one with better finish, etc.

"Gun Tests" is impartial, but it's pretty dry reading. A subscription also gives you access to their online archives.
There are some publications that have free online versions if you look around.
And if you find an article you like, check to see if the author has a blog. Sometimes they'll have stuff in their blogs that you won't find in the magazines.
Agreed. And you can subscribe to them online for free. They email you when the new issues are available and you can read em right on your phone, computer, whatever with internet access
As I currently have way more magazine subscriptions than any mortal man should have and am cutting back as the subscriptions end I will admit that I have just signed up for 2 more years of "American Handgunner". It is well written by people who know what they are talking about without a lot of jargon. I also think that the photography for their feature pieces is the finest you can find (I am cutting back on photography magazines also). I also read "American Rifleman" (it comes as an option among four titles with an NRA membership) and love it's historical material but the amount of political blather is a personal turn-off. Perhaps it will improve after this accursed election season ends (but I doubt it!) and the ponies they've been riding get put back in the barn. The "Recoil" is a new style in firearms periodicals; more "GQ" than "Field & Stream" but if it survives the current editorial kerfuffle it should be a very welcome addition to the enthusiast's library. Of course, the best things to read are catalogs! No bathroom is complete without Brownell's 1911 book on the counter and the arrival of Cabela's Shooting catalog is a holiday in my house.
How could you not feel that the "gun reviews" in the magazines are not fair and impartial, especially when the "review" is followed, next page, with a two page advertising spread for the "reviewed" weapon? Maybe that is just coincidence.......
